Restoration and renovation of the Kazan City Hall to preserve the palace as the historical and architectural listed legacy and to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Kazan- the metropolis of Tatarstan. The works started Nov.1 2005 were completed in a very short period, within 10 months, to open the City Hall for the formal ceremonies, negotiations, summits etc. during the celebration of the millennial anniversary.
The Palace is a rare sample of the Neo-Renaissance style; the red-and-white baroque interior is richly decorated with the wall painting and stucco, marble, gold, ornamental parquet floors, crystal chandeliers made on a special order. Due to design philosophy followed, the historical values of the building were protected while turning the building into a modern administrative 4-story building with the state-of-art engineering systems, a museum and temporary exhibition rooms. There 8 palace halls, multi-purpose hall for official functions on the ground floor and another one in the built-over cupola, two conference halls fitted and furnished for the Governor’s activities, VIP-halls. The White Column Hall sitting 280 guests was restored according to the original style of the XIX-th century. Unique acoustics of the Column Hall used to give a hearty welcome to such celebrities as Fyodor Shaliapin, Sergey Rakhmaninov and Vladimir Mayakovsky, was preserved. The CIS summit led by President Putin took place here. |
